This site is built to be read on a phone with a dying battery in the middle of an outage. Anything that slows it down, tracks you or asks something of you has been left out.

What we do not collect

  • No registration. Every page and every download is available without an account, an email address or a name.
  • No location. The site does not ask for, read or store your location.
  • No advertising. The pages load nothing from advertising networks or social networks.
  • No cookies of our own. The site itself sets none; the analytics service below sets its own, described there.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4, the same measurement the publisher uses across its family of sites, to count visits and see which pages people find useful. It is the only measurement of any kind on this site. Google Analytics sets its own cookies to tell one visit from the next and sends page views to Google; we have not enabled advertising features, we do not collect names, emails or locations through it, and the pages do not load it for automated browsers. The pages also pass through Cloudflare’s network, which may count requests at the edge. If you block scripts or use a browser’s tracking protection, every page still works.

The search box runs entirely in your browser. It uses Pagefind, a static index built with the site itself; when you type, your browser looks up the words in that index and sends nothing to us or to anyone else.

The household self-assessment

A future page will let a household answer a short set of questions and see what to do next. Its answers will be kept in your own browser’s storage only. They will not be sent to this site or to anyone else, and clearing your browser data will remove them.
